Calculate your overall grade by entering midterm, final, and homework grades. What grade do I need calculator.
Calculating your final grade from weighted components
Most courses don't treat all assessments equally. A typical course might weight homework at 20%, midterm at 30%, and the final exam at 50%. Your overall grade is a weighted average — not a simple average. Weighted average formula: Overall = (Score1 × Weight1) + (Score2 × Weight2) + ... where weights add up to 100%. Example: Homework 85% (weight 20%) + Midterm 70% (weight 30%) + Final 80% (weight 50%) = 17 + 21 + 40 = 78%. What score do I need on the final? This is a common calculation. If you need a 75% overall, have 78% so far from components worth 50% of the grade, and the final is worth 50%: Required = (75 - 78×0.5) / 0.5 = (75 - 39) / 0.5 = 72% on the final. Grade boundaries: Common passing thresholds are 50% or 60% depending on institution. Letter grades typically map as: 90–100% = A, 80–89% = B, 70–79% = C, 60–69% = D, below 60% = F. Tip: Always check the course syllabus for exact weighting — professors sometimes adjust weights mid-semester or drop the lowest score.
