Boxes per layer, layers and weight limit
The calculation takes two steps. First, how many boxes fit side by side on the pallet floor; then, how many layers can be stacked: • Boxes per layer = (pallet length ÷ box length) × (pallet width ÷ box width), rounded down • The box is also tried turned 90°, and the better layout is used • Layers = stack height ÷ box height, rounded down • Total boxes = boxes per layer × layers Example: a 120 × 80 cm pallet, 40 × 30 × 25 cm boxes and 150 cm of height. Laid one way, 3 × 2 = 6 boxes fit per layer; turned, 4 × 2 = 8 fit. With 150 ÷ 25 = 6 layers, the pallet holds 48 boxes. The calculation keeps boxes upright and every layer in the same pattern; a mixed pattern can sometimes fit a few more. If you enter a box weight and the pallet's weight limit, the count is capped at the limit. A Euro pallet is 120 × 80 cm and the common US pallet is 48 × 40 in (about 122 × 102 cm). Do not count the pallet's own height in the stack height; the height limit is usually 150–180 cm.
Common questions about loading pallets
It depends on the box size. 40 × 30 × 25 cm boxes fit 8 per layer on a 120 × 80 cm pallet; with 150 cm of height that is 6 layers, or 48 boxes.
