Percentage, letter grade and pass mark from correct answers
A test grade is the number of correct answers divided by the number of questions, times 100: grade = correct ÷ total × 100. The calculator turns the result into a letter grade and shows whether you passed against your pass mark. Example: 42 correct out of 50 is 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%, which is a B. With a 60% pass mark you need at least 50 × 0.60 = 30 correct answers, so 42 passes easily. Letter grades use the common US scale: A is 90% and up, B 80–89%, C 70–79%, D 60–69% and F below 60%. Schools and exams differ, so change the pass mark to match your own rules. The calculator doesn't apply negative marking; if wrong answers cost points on your test, enter your net score as the number of correct answers.
Common questions about test grades
Divide the number of correct answers by the number of questions and multiply by 100. 42 of 50 is 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%.
