How percentage grades map to GPA scales
Different countries and institutions use different grading systems, making it necessary to convert between percentage scores and GPA when applying to universities abroad or comparing academic records. 4.0 GPA scale (US standard): 93–100% = 4.0 (A), 90–92% = 3.7 (A-), 87–89% = 3.3 (B+), 83–86% = 3.0 (B), 80–82% = 2.7 (B-), 77–79% = 2.3 (C+), 73–76% = 2.0 (C), 70–72% = 1.7 (C-), 67–69% = 1.3 (D+), 65–66% = 1.0 (D), below 65% = 0.0 (F). 10-point GPA scale (India): Commonly used in Indian universities under CGPA system. 10 = O (Outstanding), 9 = A+ (Excellent), 8 = A (Very Good), 7 = B+ (Good), 6 = B (Above Average). Important caveat: Conversion tables are not universal. Harvard, MIT, and other universities each have their own conversion methodology for international applicants.
